Weird. Different. Not normal. People throw these words around, but what if theyβre actually compliments? What if the people that donβt fit in are the ones who change the world? Let me tell you something: most of them are.
I like that Iβm different, that I think differently from other people, that I donβt fit in. But sometimes being different means feeling like you donβt belong, feeling like you donβt always fit in and sometimes itβs difficult.
I have different goals I want to achieve and no one I know has those same goals, but I do know that there are other people like me in the world. I know Iβm not the only one with these fears: the fear of not being in the top 1 percent, the fear of not being successful, or being controlled by people in power. Some (including me) fear being forced to fit into a society that tells you what and how to think and what to believe. But as Christians, we donβt have to fear because God is with us. Isaiah 41:10 says, βSo do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed , for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.β
My grades may not be the best, I love learning, just not what school teaches. And for those who might also be struggling with this: you might be a musician, whose Physics marks wonβt matter, an entrepreneur, who doesnβt care much for History or English literature, an artist who doesnβt need to fully understand Maths, or a sportsperson, whose physical fitness is more important than Life sciences.
If you do get those top marks, then thatβs great! Become the doctor, scientist or marine biologist youβve always dreamed of becoming. But remember, success doesnβt always look the same for everyone. Success isnβt only measured by the grades you get, but by the difference you make.
So become the doctor, or the singer, the painter, the athlete, the designer, or even the one who invents something the world has never seen before. Follow the path you want, not the one society tells you to take. Real success isnβt about fitting in, itβs about living for Jesus. And on top of all of that, never forget Jesus, no matter what.
