Blogging Boldly with Heleni

WHERE PASSION MEETS PERSPECTIVE

Day 1:

  • We left very early on the bus, 07:00 for Durban.
  • I didn’t know who to sit next to on the bus, but then I sat next to a girl that I know from orchestra.
  • It was a nice ride, 8 hours (slept for 3 hours, 10 different sleeping positions πŸ˜‚).
  • We made 2 stops.
  • When we entered Durban, it got really, really hot and it felt like the bus driver still had the heater on!
  • It was a LiTerAL sauna in the bus and for some reason the teachers didn’t do anything about it, but maybe there was something wrong with the bus. πŸ˜…
  • We had to carry our bags up and down a bunch of high and low hills.
  • It was terrible + I over packed. 😭
  • We practiced in the heat, but the wind was a life saver!
  • We got a chance to get water and jackets in our dorms.
  • I’m in a dorm with 11 other girls, imagine that!
  • I don’t really have main friends in my group or dorm and maybe overall in softball.
  • I wasn’t feeling well because the coaches were teaching in the dinning room where we ate our breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was really hot and I got dizzy, nauseous and a headache, as it usually happens when I’m hot.
  • We got to relax and shower, I took a cold shower (as it helps for my headaches/migraines).
  • The showers there were AmAzinG and had really good water pressure.
  • Lights out at 10 pm.

Day 2:

  • I believe we trained for about 6 hours with only 3 breaks!
  • I had a terrible headache and the running in the sun and heat was making it worse.
  • We went bowling at quite a large mall, it was really fun. πŸ˜‹
  •  Lights out at 22:30.

Day 3:

  • First we went to a really cool aquarium! (The pictures are in the beginning of the blog)
  • After that, we went to the beach! 😝
  • My headache was much worse than the previous days.
  • It was really fun and each age group had some time to relax and swim.
  • The waves took me down a few times. πŸ˜‚
  • I was really tired and slept on the bus ride back, I sat alone but I was grateful for the comfortable nap.
  • Before we got on the bus I asked a girl in my dorm, (the one who organised who showers when, as we only had 3 showers). I asked if I could shower in the 2nd group so that I have enough time to get my things together.
  • By the time I got to the dorm, she said that I have to be one of the last to shower because there were girls in our dorm that didn’t shower the previous morning or night, so they had to shower first.
  • I mean really, how do you skip a day without showering?
  • I felt really dirty and sticky and I needed that cold shower.
  • BAM! That’s when my migraine hit me hard.
  • I burst into tears, that’s how painful it gets.
  • One of the girls in my group took me to the coaches dorm and I slept for a bit on their couch in their TV room and waited for it to get better.
  • They also gave me electrolytes in my water, in case I was dehydrated.
  • I hadn’t eaten a lot that day so that might’ve been part of the reason.
  • I was showering when one of the girls in my dorm that left last, switched off all the lights! πŸ˜”
  • So inconsiderate!
  • After eating I went to go sleep.
  • I called my mom. To talk to her about how camp was so far and my migraine.
  • Talking to her always makes me feel safer.
  • Lights out at 10 pm, but for me, 7:30 pm.

Day 4:

  • The next day, everyone was happy we were going to leave the following day.
  • We ate breakfast (The toast was aMaZinG πŸ€ͺ)
  • All the girls moved down to the field and the coaches taught us a fun dance.
  • We went straight into warming up and doing different activities, but after that I sat out because my headache didn’t go away and was started to get bad again.
  • We had lunch and then we went to the MALL! 😝
  • It was super fun!
  • Lights out at 10 pm.

Day 5:

  • Day five was the last day at softball camp.
  • We had our breakfast in a to-go bag to eat on the bus.
  • The coaches gave out prizes and certificates for going to camp.
  • The uphill back to the bus was torturous. πŸ˜‚
  • The trip back home was much more fun! πŸ€—
  • We bought pizza at our first and only stop.
  • Got back at our school at 20:30.

Honestly, I enjoyed camp. It was full of different experiences. The best part was that I made new friends.

Stay tuned for my next blog πŸ˜‹

WOW HELENI!!! That’s quite the trip! So sorry to hear that you had all those little moments that made you unhappy, but think about all the love moments, when you made friends, spoke to your mom or represented your team while playing, or even how you saw a really cool aquarium. I love reading your blogs!!❀️
